Stepping up to stepping out.

Day out by day out,  weekend by weekend, we have stepped up and out from strolls to longer walks, working up to hikes. But still having a fun time for everyone in the family.

For families with older children it combines exercise with a catch up … a little gossip spun in along the way.  Many families agree that a walk is opportunity to unpick a knotty problem, in a non-confrontation situation, whilst taking in the view or pointing out trees or birds or skimming stones. So, maybe a day or two or more can reveal greater understandings of one another.

Claire and Mark took their children (10,8,6) walking along Hadrian’s Wall during the Easter holidays. It was arduous and challenging, both the walking and the weather. A mars bar was need to encourage tired legs. But it was an experience which bonded the family. They returned fitter, for sure, and closer, for sure.

You’ll find blogs of families canoe-ing and diving abroad. Flying to spectacular locations is literally ‘dreamy’. If that is stretching the budget the UK and France offer all kinds of beautiful places, with activities.

The ‘walking’ could be part of exploring a city or ancient site.  Time together exploring together.

MAGIC BEANS

Growing children and Walks.

The Russell family live in Suffolk. Rendlesham Forest trail. When the children were young they did the easier loop from Sutton Heath but as they grew they packed a rucksack and took on the Loop from Eyk, deep into the forest.
