Camp “Sight” – Questions to guide your camping choices

PLOTTING
How sophisticated or simple is your escapism?

One end of the scale being a field next to a remote farm, or, be one of scores in a massive camp site with facilities galore.  It gives your family the opportunity to experience the sounds and silences of the nature, if not the wild.

The  remote controls at home.  The remote … a tent flap away.

Do you want to find a location with no signal and no where to charge your battery?

Many campsites are the only way to stay in particularly isolated and unspoilt places where there are no hotels or houses.

How totally do you want to immerse yourself?

Wigwams in the Lake District.

Deep in the country, where you walk along a track to find a vehicle free field and beyond that your own beach? No WIFI. Only basic toilets.

Are you more about getting back to nature but with the odd mod con such as:

  • showers and toilettes,
  • laundrette with drying facilities
  • a shop
  • swimming pool,
  • a river
  • a packing-up night a pizza delivery?.
  • baby sitting
  • playground
  • hiking,
  • kayaking,
  • canoeing,
  • going on a bike ride,
  • try mountain biking
  • zip wiring
  • fishing
  • paddle boarding,
  • surfing,
  • sailing
  • horse riding.

The ins and outs, ups and downs, rain and shine, of camping knits a family together. Time out with your family, away from your usual busy lives.

The phrase I heard, time and again, “Everyone mucks in”.

Being close to nature in extra-ordinary landscapes will revive weary minds and bodies.

Pitch Perfect

Who wants to be in which tent?

How many tents do you want?

(How many do you want to put up and take down.)

Small pop up tents for the children?

A kitchen/dinning room tent attached or separate or joined by an awning.

Do you require a plot which is say 6m x 5m? Smaller tent in bigger pitch.

Or 8m x8m, a larger tent taking up most of the pitch.

How far from the facilities do you want to be? (Too near and your site will be blighted by campers passing by and other uglies…)

PITCHED UP – this is what your are aiming for …..

Tent upAwning up.

Shoes/boots/crocs in box in awing, out of the tent.

‘Kitchen’ set up.

Sleeping bags rolled out.

Camp chairs out.

Cup of tea in hand …   Life slows down and stress relief rises up.

Organising a Gathering for over ten, over three days e.g Bank. Holiday

Inner Child

I agree with other parents that one of the most enchanting feelings is seeing the child in your children re-emerging, and feeling your own inner child, as memories of your childhood return.

When they grow up

Children of campers will know how to set up a camp and go camping with friends, camping Birthday parties are a hoot.
